About the Lake

Lake Vermilion is 40,558 acres in size and is fifth largest lake in Minnesota. With a maximum depth of 76th feet, the lake is the 10th deepest in the state. It located near Tower, Minnesota hosting a population of 479 people according to the 2000 census.

Earliest settlers to the area include the Ojibwa Natives who fished the lake. French fur traders also settled along its shores.

The lake has a variety of freshwater fish: Walleye, Bluegill, Crappie, Northern Pike, Muskie, Rock, Large & Smallmouth Bass.

The lake area holds some of Minnesota’s most precious natural resources including timber and ore.
